McNair’s Introduction to Technology, Exploring Technology, and Orientation to Technology classes assist students in developing their problem-solving skills and creativity while learning about technology and careers. Students are introduced to a multitude of technological resources and processes. Students explore technologies related to aerospace, engineering, laser/fiber-optics, construction, drafting, electronics, communications, simple machines, transportation, manufacturing, computer numerically controlled machining/robotics and bio-technologies occupations, job requirements, career opportunities, entrepreneurship, employability skills and related leadership skills.

Our Business Keyboarding and Computer Applications in Business classes provide instruction in keyboarding for business applications, and refine the students’ abilities to use integrated application software such as word processing, database, and spreadsheet.

Emphasis is placed on work ethics, productivity and quality, working individually and within groups to develop a simulated work activity and produce a quality product. Students are acquainted with career opportunities in the field of computers, as well as hands-on practical experience using application software. Students develop business decision-making and problem-solving methods, identify the parts and functions of a computer system, perform computer activities, identify uses of the computer and become familiar with occupations dealing with computer hardware and software.

Esther Muradov was honored at an EPEC (Exemplary Projects in Energy and Conservation) Awards ceremony at the Florida Solar Energy Center on May 4, 2006.
She was recognized for her excellent work on her Science Project this year: "Can Zero-Energy Homes Become a Reality in Florida?"

McNair’s Science Research Program was established in 1990. We have a proven track record of award-winning success. McNair research students have continued to excel in high school science research, earning regional, state, national and even Presidential recognition! While not limited to gifted students, applicants must score at level 5 in reading and exhibit a high level of motivation.

BLAST

BLAST is a science program designed for each 7th grade student in Brevard Public Schools to spend a day in Astronaut training. McNair students were the first school to conduct their simulated missions to launch and land a shuttle this year. This experience was a building block that is being used for a variety of learning experiences. Students built Newtonian Physics Machines, model shuttles, designed mission patches, wrote about the experience and created timelines for space exploration.. The 7th grade students must complete 3 activities to make them eligible for a certificate to take to the Astronaut Hall of Fame for a family pass for four. For many students, this was a once in a lifetime experience.

Science students are busy getting their ideas for science projects squared away, Science Bowl and Lego Teams are meeting regularly and we are getting ready to launch our Science Olympiad team in a few days. Plans for a SECME team is also in the works. For more information, please contact your student's science teacher.

TV Production

The television production elective, held during first period, is a small class in which students write and execute a live news show daily, videotape special activities around campus, and create special video projects.

Television production incorporates language arts, visual arts, critical thinking, and creativity in a real world product. Students rotate through each aspect of production, serving as script writers, directors, studio equipment operators, and videographers, as well as anchors (or “talent”). To be accepted for this class, you must complete an application, be recommended by your classroom teachers, and preferably have had TV production experience at the elementary level. Only a limited number of students can be selected each year.

The Challenge is an educational competition designed to encourage students to learn more about energy and the environment.

Mrs. Still usually participates in this annual contest, and students and teachers can win prizes including trips for two to Hawaii and Washington DC! Projects and applications are due by February 18, 2006.
