Registration Information

Each incoming 7th grader and their parent(s) are required to meet with a school guidance counselor to create an Individual Program of Study. If you haven’t scheduled this meeting already, please do so by calling Patricia Robinson at 633-3630 ext 3007. Counselors are available to meet between 9:30 am and 4 pm, Monday through Friday.


Mrs. Merrick (students last name A-J) is available until June 30th.
Mrs. Thompson (students last name K-Z) is available until June 13th and will return July 23rd.

Please schedule this appointment as soon as possible.

Due to school renovations, the guidance office has been temporarily relocated. The best way to ensure communication with the guidance staff is via email.


The guidance office provides services to students, teachers and parents in the areas of registration, scheduling, grading, student records, immunizations, Exceptional Education programs, testing, mentoring, academic counseling, behavior modifications, scholarships, and transportation.

Child study team meetings can be set through the guidance office to include concerns of the parents, teachers/administrators, and students on an appointment basis. Referrals will be given for personal counseling issues, as needed, in most instances.

Elective Class Descriptions

Course: Art
The purpose of this course is to enable students to explore, produce, and appreciate two- and three-dimensional works of art. Production activities may include drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpting, and assemblage. A variety of media, technology, analysis, cultural and historical perspectives, connections between visual arts and other subject areas, benefits, and career opportunities.

Course: Band
The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop fundamental skills on wind or percussion instruments through middle school band literature. Students will play their instruments every day. They will make connections with music, musicians, and care and maintenance. Beginning band students will learn how to play, and the advanced band students will advance their skills. Students will perform at school and in the community are explored. *Fees may apply * Teacher signature is required for advanced band.

Course: Career and Technical, Computer Applications, Keyboarding
The purpose of this course is to teach students basic keyboarding skills, formatting techniques, processing concepts for personal use, alphabetic, numeric, and symbolic keyboarding skills, and preparation of personal and professional documents.

Course: Chorus/Vocal Techniques
uesThe purpose of this course is to enable students to develop fundamental vocal musicianship, technical skills, and aesthetic awareness through the study and performance of varied middle school choral literature. The content will include vocal production, choral performance techniques, music literacy, composition, and choral music. Students will participate in performances at school and in the community. *Fees may apply

Course: Family and Consumer Sciences, Life Choices, Career Discovery, Career and Technical
The purpose of this course is to assist students in becoming familiar with home economics content and how it impacts on personal development. Personal grooming and dress, consumer information, caring for children, making decisions, and food and nutrition will be covered.

Course: Dance (Beginning or Advanced )
The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop fundamental knowledge and skills in two or more dance styles, recognize choreographic processes, enhance aesthetic awareness, and make connections between dance and other subject areas. Connections between dance and healthy living will be made. Dressing out and participating are part of the student’s daily grade. Students will perform at school and in the community. PE credit is earned for this course. *Fees may apply

Course: Drama
The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop fundamental knowledge and skills in the elements of theatre arts. Acting, characterization, movement, vocal production, pantomime, improvisation, theatre terminology, playwriting, and audience etiquette will be taught. *Fees may apply

Course: Introduction to Technology, Explorations in Technology
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the world of technology, its development, and its use. Through hands-on activities, students will develop technological literacy, apply basic skills, and increase self-awareness. They will use the computers and the wood shop to produce. *Fees may apply

Course: Keyboarding
The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop fundamental music concepts through development of keyboard performance skills. Hand position, fingering, reading and performance skills, literature, notation, arranging, and the roles of music and musicians will be taught.

Course: Law Studies
The purpose of this course is to enable students to learn about the judicial system, criminal justice system, and the laws of the United States. Students will participate in mock trials, and will be involved in discussions about recent and historical cases.

Course: Musical Theatre
The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop fundamental knowledge and skills in the elements of theatre arts. Acting, characterization, movement, vocal production, pantomime, improvisation, theatre terminology, playwriting, and audience etiquette will be taught. Students will sing, dance, act and learn about staging techniques. Students will perform. *Fees may apply. *Teacher signature is required for Advance Musical theatre.

Course: Orchestra
The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop skills on string or other orchestral instruments through the refinement and performance of junior high school orchestra literature. *Teacher signature is required.

Course: Physical Education
The purpose of this course is to develop competence in: physical fitness, body management skills, throwing and catching skills, strategies for physical activities. A semester credit of PE is required, unless the PE waiver is utilized. *Fees apply

Course: Science Research
The purpose of this course is to enable students to learn scientific research skills, and to apply their knowledge with an in depth investigation of a science topic. The students will be required to participate in the school and Intracoastal Science Fair, possibly state and national competitions. Students need to be willing to work independently. Some before school or weekend work will be required. Parent Volunteers welcome.

Course: Spanish
The purpose of this course is to enable students to begin to acquire proficiency in Spanish through linguistic, communicative, and cultural approach to language learning. Students may take beginning/ intermediate Spanish one year and Spanish I for high school credit .

Course: Technical Theatre/Stagecraft
The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop skills in aspects of technical theatre. Students will learn lighting, backstage, props, sound, set design, and other technical aspects of the theatre process. *Fees may apply.

Course: Tennis
The purpose of this course is to develop competence in tennis skills. Students will learn beginning and intermediate tennis techniques through a gaming approach. PE credit is earned.* Fees may apply.

Florida Virtual School (FLVS) is an established leader in developing and providing virtual K-12 education solutions to students throughout the country. Now a nationally recognized e-Learning model, FLVS began as a pilot project in 1997.
