Gifted/Accelerated Magnet
Any student previously tested and staffed as a Gifted Student is eligible for our full-time Gifted Program. Your child will have core classes with teachers certified in Gifted Education as well as their particular subject area (math, science, social studies, language arts), and be among a group of gifted and talented peers for those four periods daily. Slots are open on a first-come, first served basis for gifted students until our capacity is reached. Gifted students may choose any three electives, as well as any extracurricular activities desired.
Any student with FCAT scores of 4-5, Grades of A-B, and a strong teacher recommendation is eligible for the Accelerated Program. Accelerated students participate in the same core classes with gifted students and choose any three electives as well as extracurricular activities as desired.

Performing / Visual Arts Magnet
Students in the Performing and Visual Arts Magnet Program have core teachers (math, science, social studies and language arts) who frequently employ the Arts as a pathway for learning. The Arts Team has special training in their curriculum areas and Arts infusion as a learning strategy. In addition, many elective classes and several extracurricular activities are available. Students in performance electives will perform in the school and for various community events. Arts students may choose any three electives, as well as extracurricular activities as desired.
Math / Science / Technology Magnet
This magnet encompasses our whole school population. All middle school students are required to take mathematics and science, and use technology tools for learning. All teachers have the 21st century classroom technology equipment. McNair offers courses at the regular 7th and 8th grade levels as well as remedial and very advanced levels. Your child will be appropriately placed depending on ability. Additionally, there are many enrichment opportunties and extracurricular activities in math and science from which to choose.
All teams and all teachers use a variety of technology tools in their instruction and work with students to develop proficiency with technology. Students who score at least Level 2 in Reading and Math on FCAT may choose any three electives; however, those scoring Level 1 on Reading and/or Math must take Intensive Reading and/or Math courses in addition to their core subjects.
Student Shadowing Experience / Parent Tours
Current 6th grade students in Brevard Public Schools can spend the day at McNair "shadowing" one of our special McNair Hosts. The 6th grader will spend time in core academic classes and electives of their choice in order to develop an understanding of McNair student life, and help determine whether McNair is YOUR School of Choice for middle school . Shadowing days are considered a "field trip" and will not count against your child for attendance at the elementary school. Tours of the McNair campus for parents/guardians can be arranged to help compare our facility, curriculum and programs with the offerings of other schools. Please call or e-mail Jan Fancher to set-up Shadowing or Tours. (Mondays and Tuesdays in January)
