At McNair Magnet, pen and paper aren't the only tools for students to show what they know. While test taking, essays and written reports work for some; others best share their knowledge through music, movement, dance, fine arts, or drama.
McNair’s art-infused magnet programs celebrate these different ways of knowing through the visual and performing arts, all integrated into core academic subjects.
As the smallest middle school in Brevard and the only magnet middle school, we offer a variety of magnet programs including Gifted/Accelerated, Math, Science, Technology, Performing Arts and Fine Arts. Our award-winning teachers are focused on brain-based learning that meets the high expectations of the Sunshine State and National Standards for middle school education.
From microscopes to musical revues and ballet slippers to basketball courts, our hands-on, minds-on experiences engage every student in self-directed learning and discovery. So go ahead, show the world what you know.

McNair Middle Magnet School
of Performing Arts, Gifted/Accelerated, Math/Science and Technology:
Arts and intellect intersect at this Florida "A" school empowering students to show what they know. Learning through the arts allows students to express themselves as they discover and enjoy their talents in Drama, Creative Movement, Music, Art and Technology. For students drawn to the Visual and Performing Arts, Science and Technology, or for those in search of accelerated learning, McNair captures their imaginations and motivates creative thinking.
Students can participate in any of the school's four magnet tracks. The School of Performing Arts offers dance instruction in a new dance studio with sprung wood floor and mirrors. Students take daily dance classes with a certified dance instructor and explore the genres of jazz, ballet, tap, modern, hip-hop and musical theater style dancing. Student dancers also may want to audition for the McNair Performing Dance Company. In Drama classes, students perform two plays each year, learning acting techniques, different styles of acting and how to write their own sketches. Musical Theater students perform in two musicals during the year or may choose to participate behind the scenes with recently-purchased theatrical equipment such as costumes, show bills, instruments, trusses and lighting. Piano/Keyboarding, band and orchestra are also a part of the performing arts program. Students in orchestra receive expert instruction from a strings consultant who visits weekly.
McNair has the only full-time Gifted Student program for middle school in Brevard County. An Accelerated program also provides the intellectual stimulation for advanced students. These students learn core subjects through hands-on projects and interactive learning devices as well as through district-adopted textbooks and a variety of supplementary print and non-print resources. Gifted and accelerated students learn at a faster pace in a challenging and motivating curriculum taught by certified gifted instructors. Language Arts, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, including Science Research form the Gifted/Accelerated curriculum. Advanced students also can earn high school credit in Math and Foreign Language.
The Math and Science magnet features a myriad of programs from engineering and robotics, to Science Olympiad and Science Bowl . Students conduct experiments and research using the latest technology, such as SmartBoards, E-instruction and visual presenters.
